Remove pendulum support (arrows A and B). => Repair group 26 Removing and installing parts of the exhaust system. ‒ Separate exhaust system and if necessary remove from sub-frame.‒ Remove lower flywheel cover plate, if part of original equipment.Remove flywheel small cover plate -A- behind the right-hand flanged shaft (arrows), if fitted. ‒ Disconnect drive shafts from flanged shafts and tie up as high as possible, when doing this do not damage surface protection.=> Running gear, axles, steering Repair group 40 Servicing front suspension Removing and installing swivel joint ‒ Remove right hand inner constant velocity joint protective cover from engine if fitted.=> Electrical system Repair group 27 Starter motor Removing and installing starter motor ‒ Remove P.A.S pipe from starter and gearbox.‒ If fitted, remove centre and left part of insulation tray below engine/gearbox.‒ Take weight of engine/gearbox assembly on the spindles.If the lifting eye is attached to the lower part of the engine then additional hook 10-222 A/2 is to be used. ‒ Fit support bar 10-222A together with legs 10-222 A/1.Ĭontinued for vehicles with 5 and 6-Cyl.‒ If there are hoses and cable connections in area of engine mounting eye for support 10-222A, remove these now.Ĭontinued for vehicles with 4-Cyl.‒ Remove wiring and cable from starter.‒ Tie selector cable with gearbox selector lever and gate selector cable with relay lever up.‒ Remove gear selector cable -B- with gearbox selector lever, remove nut (arrow) to do this.Pull off gate selector cable -A- with relay lever, remove circlip (arrow) to do this. ‒ Remove engine/gearbox upper securing bolts.‒ Remove earth strap at engine/gearbox upper securing bolt.‒ Then remove upper securing bolt (arrow 2) on starter.Remove cable retainer (arrow 1) on starter. ![]() Remove slave cylinder place to side and secure with wire, do not disconnect pipes. Remove cable support bracket from gearbox (arrows), if necessary unclip hose at cable support bracket first. ‒ Pull gate selector cable off actuating arm/relay lever -C- to do this lift lug in direction of arrow.‒ Take off gear selector cable with washer and square nut (self-locking).Remove balance weight -A- and gear selector cable -B- from gear selector lever. ‒ Pull off reverse light connector (arrow 2).Pull connector off road speed sender (arrow 1). => Repair group 24 Removing and installing air cleaner ‒ Remove complete air cleaner housing, to do this, unscrew bolts -4- and -5.Remove intake hose -1-, connector -2- and hose -3- from air mass meter. ‒ With the ignition switched off disconnect the battery earth strap.If this is the case obtain the anti-theft coding. ‒ First check whether a coded radio is fitted.‒ Drill a 8.5 mm ø hole (arrow) in support rail VW 457/1.To secure support rail VW 457/1 to the subframe a new hole is required. ‒ Support rails VW 457/1 are required to remove and install the gearbox.◆ VW 457/1 Support rails (modifying => next page)Īdditionally for vehicles with 5 and 6-Cyl.Return shipping on the core is included.Special tools, workshop equipment, test and measuring appliances and auxiliary items required Please also note that we require your old transmission back as a core.
